Danish general and Crown Prince of Sweden (1768-1810) who was adopted by Charles XIII in 1809. He died suddenly the next year falling off his horse during a military practice. Although his autopsy confirmed that he had suffered a stroke, rumors spread that he had been poisoned by followers of the deposed Gustav IV Adolf. Manuscript DS in German, signed “Ch. August,” one page, 8 x 11.5, December 21, 1796. Untranslated document signed by Charles August, dating to his years in the Royal Danish Army. In fine condition.
