Super desirable pairing of covers signed by the moon-walking astronauts of the Apollo 11 and 17 missions, the first and last men to walk on the lunar surface—an FDC with a cachet honoring the Apollo 11 crew and moon-landing, postmarked July 20, 1969, the date of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and September 9, 1969, the issue date for the jumbo-sized commemorative "First Man on the Moon" stamp, which is affixed to the right corner, signed in black ballpoint by Neil Armstrong and in blue ballpoint by Buzz Aldrin; and a postal ‘splashdown’ cover with a stamped cachet honoring the U.S. Navy Pacific Recovery Force that retrieved the crew of the Apollo 17 mission, postmarked onboard the recovery ship the USS Ticonderoga on December 19, 1972, signed in black ink by Gene Cernan and in black felt tip by Harrison Schmitt. In overall fine condition, with light toning to the Apollo 17 cover.
