Member of the House of Habsburg (1527-1576) who was Holy Roman Emperor from 1564 until his death; his policies of religious neutrality allowed peace between the empire's Roman Catholics and Protestants after the first struggles of the Reformation. His wife, Maria of Austria (1528-1603) served as regent of Spain in the absence of her father Emperor Charles V from 1548 until 1551. Manuscript DS in Spanish, signed “Maximilian" and "Maria,” one page, 8.5 x 11.5, June 1549. Untranslated official document signed at the conclusion by Maximilian II and his wife, Maria of Austria. In fine condition, with scattered light foxing.
