TLS signed "Ansel," one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, January 3, 1982. Letter to Peter Wensberg, executive vice-president of the Polaroid Corporation. In part: "We all hope the coming year will show progress, but for as long as we have 'non-wisdomites' in Washington I cannot be too hopefull…The photography world seems to be a nursery for rumors. I hear from all sides that the photographic business is not so good. No firm or dealer seems unaffected by the economy. Sales of fine prints—Auctions or through Galleries—has definitely been reduced. Strangely enough, certain books enjoy a good response. My books are doing very well; I am told that Images (originally published in 1874 [sic]) is selling exceptionally—and at a price of $125.00 (original price, $75.00). Also, the 4x5 format is being used more, I am told. I know of many photographers who are turning to the larger Polaroid formats. All this is interesting to me; I retain the warmest interest in Polaroid and observe as many details of research and production as I can. Your advertisements have been exceptionally fine and consistent. I have had many favorable comments on the new Sun Camera. And I have seen many Polaroid Camera of all types in the field—more than ever before. I do not keep statistics, but I am sure I have had random contact with three times as many Polaroid Cameras as Kodak Cameras." In fine condition, with some edge toning.
