Japanese diplomat (1886-1954) who signed the Tripartite Pact along with the foreign ministers of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy on September 27, 1940, but may be better remembered for as the envoy who tried to negotiate peace and understanding with the United States while the Japanese government was secretly preparing the attack on Pearl Harbor. He broke off relations in a meeting with Secretary of State Cordell Hull on December 7, 1941, just as the attack on Pearl Harbor commenced. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders photo of Saburo Kurusu, signed in ink in Japanese. Reverse is stamped "The Associated Press, News Photo, Tokyo Bureau, Japan." In very good to fine condition, with light scuffing and scattered light creasing.
