Collection of five unsigned books by Frederick Law Olmsted:
A three-volume set containing A Journey in the Seaboard Slave States, published in New York by Dix & Edwards in 1856; A Journey through Texas, published in New York by Dix, Edwards & Co. in 1857; and A Journey in the Back Country, published in New York by Mason Brothers in 1860. Each hardcover, approximately 5 x 7.25, bound with three-quarter leather and marbled boards with raised bands and gilt titling to spine; accompanied by a custom slipcase and a folded “Map of the Cotton Kingdom and Its Dependencies.” Book condition: VG-/None, with wear and rubbing to leather, and scattered foxing and staining to textblocks.
Two-volume set entitled Forty Years of Landscape Architecture: Being the Professional Papers of Frederick Law Olmsted, Senior,’ containing ‘Early Years and Experiences Together with Biographical Notes’ and ‘Central Park as a Work of Art and as a Great Municipal Enterprise,’ both published in New York by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in 1922 and 1928, respectively. Both hardcover with dark green boards and spines titled in gilt, 6 x 8.75, 131 pages and 575 pages, with the second volume concluding with an impressive panoramic map of Central Park with an overlay key map. Book condition: VG/None, with rubbing to gilt title of the second volume and some creasing to the fold-out map and its onionskin overlay.
