Financier and philanthropist (1874-1960) who was the only son among the five children of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Rockefeller Center letterhead, January 4, 1937. Letter to Matthew Woll, in part: "On December 8th you asked me if I would make a contribution toward the program of the Workers' Education Bureau of America for the year 1937. This I am glad to do in the amount of $500 and me enclosing herewith a cashier's check to the order of the Bureau therefor…May I suggest that this contribution be entered as from an anonymous friend of yours and that my name be not used in connection with it? As you will realize, this course might save me some embarrassment in connection with requests for contributions to some other similar organizations with which I might not have the same relationships as in the present instance." In fine condition.
