DS, one page, 6.5 x 9, July 16, 1954. A designation and application for membership in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, filled out in blue ballpoint by another hand and signed in black ballpoint by Tor Johnson, who, on the reverse, states himself as a "Spec Act" seeking active membership. The application also notes that his gross income from the past year was less than $2000. In fine condition.
Tor Johnson (1903-1971) was a former professional wrestler known as the 'Super Swedish Angel,' but movie fans perhaps best remember the rotund, bald actor from his roles in a number of low-paying B-movies, including cop-turned-zombie Dan Clay in the Ed Wood cult classic Plan 9 from Outer Space. The year after being approved for this AFTRA card, Johnson also treated audiences to his performance as Lobo in Bride of the Monster. Johnson remains rare across all signed formats, with this being only the fifth signed example we have ever offered.
