Notorious and aggressive Union general (1814-1879) who distinguished himself at the Battle of Williamsburg in 1862 and as a result was promoted to major general; later that year he led troops into battle at the Second Battle of Bull Run and Antietam. Desirable 2.25 x 4.25 carte-de-visite photo of 'Fighting Joe' in uniform with sword in hand, published by E. & H. T. Anthony from a negative from Brady's National Portrait Gallery, signed on the reverse in bold ink, "Joseph Hooker, Maj. Genl."
