British statesman (1849-1895) and the father of Winston Churchill; he led the so-called Fourth Party, a group of Conservative members of Parliament who advocated social and constitutional reform. ALS signed “Randolph S. Churchill,” three pages, 5 x 8, 50 Grosvenor Square letterhead, June 11, 1893. Handwritten letter to noted English lawyer George Lewis, in part: "Yours is no ordinary Knighthood. In the Royal profession a title of that kind only comes to the eminent & to those who have shown honour, learning judgment & the highest professional attainments. The universal approval which has greeted this recognition of public services confirms me in my opinion.” In very good to fine condition, with tape along the hinge.
