Union Army officer (1806-1864) during the American Civil War who served in Southeast Virginia and the Carolinas. He was mortally wounded late in the war following a horse riding accident. Civil War-dated manuscript DS, one page, 8 x 10, 1863 or 1864. A requisition form for ordinance issued to "Colonel Joshua B. Howell, Cmdg. 2d Brigade" for "1 Colt Revolver & Equipment…required to arm one mounted orderly." Signed boldly at the conclusion by Howell. In fine condition. In July 1863, Howell’s brigade in the XVIII Corps was transferred to the X Corps in the Department of the South. Howell's brigade was designated the 2nd Brigade, Terry's Division, X Corps, and took part in the siege of Charleston Harbor. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
