Description

Glossy 10 x 8 photo of an electrifying scene from the controversial 1932 film The Mask of Fu Manchu, signed and inscribed in red felt tip, "To Phil Riley…Ken Strickfaden, Doubling for Boris Karloff in The Mask of Dr. Fu Manchu.” In fine condition.

Although Mary Shelley created the monster, Universal Studios special effects expert Ken Strickfaden thought enough of the Tesla coil to use it as an instrument to bring her monster to life. Strickfaden was an electrician, film set designer, and electrical effects creator, and his Tesla coils were used in more than 100 motion picture films and TV programs, including Mary Shelley's 1931 Frankenstein, The Wizard of Oz, and TV's The Munsters, as well as his last work—Young Frankenstein. Before his death in 1984, he spent much time touring with his ‘Kenstric Space Age Science Show,’ educationally demonstrating spectacular electrical phenomena.
