American cinematographer (1899-1962) who is best known for his work in the 1930s at Universal Pictures, where he often worked on the films of James Whale, including Bride of Frankenstein, Show Boat, and The Invisible Man. Vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of legendary Hollywood cinematographers Burnett Guffey and John J. Mescall, the latter of which signs and inscribes in black ink to the former, "To old 'sure-shot' Bernie, Johnnie Mescall." In fine condition. A desirable association piece between two Hollywood pioneers.
