Description

Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Tho. Mifflin,” one page, 15.75 x 12.75, June 13, 1789. As president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, Mifflin grants Michael Morgan O'Brien of Philadelphia a plot of land "marked in the General Plan of City Lots Number 1597, Situate on the North side of Lombard Street in the City of Philadelphia, between Beach and Wilton Streets." Signed in the left margin by Thomas Mifflin and countersigned at the conclusion by Charles Biddle. The seal suspended from the green ribbon in the upper left remains intact, with folded points. In fine condition.

Mifflin (1744-1800) was a Revolutionary War General, Washington’s Aide-de-Camp, President of the Continental Congress, Signer of the US Constitution, and 1st Governor of Pennsylvania; Biddle (1745-1821) served in the Revolution as a volunteer in the Quaker Light Infantry and, in 1778, served under his brother, Commodore Nicholas Biddle, aboard the USS Randolph, before entering state politics.
