TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, black-bordered White House letterhead, August 25, 1923. Letter to J. P. MacArdle, sent during President Coolidge's first month in office following the sudden death of Warren G. Harding. In full: "It is good to hear from an old friend like yourself, and the more so because your letter recalls our early associations. My own reply is brief because of the demands on my time, but I assure you that it is none the less sincere." In fine condition. A scarce example of black-bordered mourning letterhead from the White House, sent as the nation grieved the loss of President Harding.
