TLS signed “Dick Nixon,” one page, 7.75 x 10.5, June 2, 1978. Letter to James L. Dixon, in part: “You were most thoughtful to write as you did on Memorial Day, 1978. I deeply appreciated the kind and generous comments you included…The POWs are truly great men and we were honored to have them as our guests.” Nixon adds the salutation in his own hand, "Dear Jimmy." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, bearing a pre-printed free frank.
On May 24, 1973, President Nixon welcomed Vietnam POWs to the largest dinner held at the White House. The guests of honor were every single Vietnam POW who came home three months earlier. More than 590 attended. Notwithstanding Watergate, Nixon’s support of the POWs was never forgotten by his supporters.
