Description

American soldier and politician (1740-1809) who served as paymaster general in the Continental Army and as George Washington's aide-de-camp; he later served as governor of Connecticut and as the second Speaker of the US House of Representatives. ALS signed “Jon'a Trumbull,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, June 5, 1801. Handwritten letter by Governor Trumbull to "His Excellency Governor Ogle, Maryland," in part: "I have the honor to transmit to your Excellency, the enclosed Resolutions of our General Assembly, passed at their late session, making reply to the Resolutions of the Legislature of the State of Maryland, which were by your Excellency transmitted to me, to be laid before the Legislature of this State for their consideration." In fine condition, with mounting remnants to a reverse edge.
