Description

To the publisher Sir Stanley Unwin: "In this round-the-clock job reading for pleasure goes by the board!"

TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8.25, Chief of the Defence Staff, Ministry of Defence letterhead, February 8, 1963. Letter to publisher Sir Stanley Unwin, in part: "Thank you so much for your letter…and also for sending me an advance copy of 'The Yankee Marlborough.' It was very kind of you to send it to me, but I regret I shall not be able to give an expression of opinion on it before its publication date, as it is very doubtful that I shall even have time to read it by then. I am very hard pressed with work at the moment, and on the 24th February I am leaving the country on an official tour of South America." He adds a handwritten postscript: "In this round-the-clock job reading for pleasure goes by the board!" In fine condition.
