Originates from the personal collection of Jennifer Gwynne, who began dating Musk in the fall semester of the 1994-1995 school year when they both lived and worked as Resident Advisors (RAs) in the ‘Spruce Street’ part of the University of Pennsylvania’s Quadrangle dorm. In 1995, after graduating from Penn with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Wharton School, Musk migrated to Stanford University where had been accepted into the school's Ph.D. program in materials science. He left after two days to join the Internet boom and launch his first startup.
According to Gwynne: 'At the end of the summer of 1995, before my senior year at the University of Pennsylvania, I visited Elon in San Francisco just as he was starting to launch his first Silicon Valley company - Zip2. I had spent the summer in Europe and my luggage was full of cards and souvenirs from my travels. Elon secretly picked this card from my luggage and wrote a sweet/silly note. He then snuck it back into my luggage for me to find when I got back home to Rhode Island.'
