Description

"I have had a very bad case of ‘diabetis’ but it is a little better now"

Outlaw and train robber (1871-1937) who was the youngest of the brothers that made up the legendary Dalton Gang of the Old West. He was sentenced to life in prison after an attempted bank robbery in 1892, but was pardoned fourteen years later, after which he became a reformed, respectable member of society. After moving to California to work in real estate, he also embarked on a career in the arts, capitalizing on his notoriety to publish books and begin a career in Hollywood. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, August 30, 1936. Letter to "Mr. 'Frisco' Bert," in part: "I think your idea is good, to start something new, where you can depend on the uniqueness of your advertising to help you. Any kind of a business in a good location should do, where you can do plenty of advertising, cheaply. You see you want plenty of room for advertising even if you do not use it. I think I am getting along alright even if I am very weak now. I have found out that I have had a very bad case of ‘diabetis’ but it is a little better now, and I am getting a little better now.” In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "MINT 9."
