Politician and financial genius (1761-1849) responsible for the formation of what is now known as the Ways and Means Committee. Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5.25 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and postmarked at Washington on January 7 [1805], addressed to "Joseph Wilson, Esqr, Collector, Marblehead, Massachusetts,” stamped “Free,” and franked in the upper right corner, "Albert Gallatin." In very good to fine condition, with two vertical folds, and Gallatin's signature light but fully legible. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "EX-MT 6.”
