Pope, born Giacomo della Chiesa (1854-1922), who reigned from 1914 to 1922. Maintaining strict neutrality during WWI, he advanced several peace proposals and did much to aid war victims. Exceptional apostolic benediction signed “Benedictus P.P. XV,” one page, 9.25 x 12.5, November 29, 1917. An apostolic blessing for “Yvonne et Madeleine Bore,” featuring a calligraphic inscription and a fantastic affixed portrait of Pope Benedict, who adds a handwritten sentiment in French below. Affixed to its original cardstock mount and in fine condition, with trimmed edges, and a tiny tear to the top edge.
