Description

Hamilton writes to the "Commanding Officer of West Point"

Coveted ink signature, "A. Hamilton,” on an off-white 7 x 2 sheet clipped from the close of a handwritten letter addressed to "The Commanding Officer of West point & its dependencies," with lower portion annotated "(From Miss Ingersoll: 1868)." In very good to fine condition, with show-through at the side edges from old mounting residue on the reverse. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder. Given how the United States Military Academy was established in 1802, and Hamilton died from a bullet wound suffered from his duel with Aaron Burr on July 12, 1804, the recipient of this letter is either Jonathan Williams or Decius Wadsworth, the first and second superintendents at West Point.
