Unique collection of ten envelopes addressed to Mohandas Gandhi, most postmarked between 1947 and 1948, including several with delivery postmarks dating to mere weeks prior to his assassination on January 30, 1948. Most envelopes are addressed to "Mahatma Gandhi" at "Birla House, New Delhi," with other places including "Bhangi Colony, Delhi" and "Harigan Basti, New Delhi." In overall fine condition. Consignor notes that these envelopes originate from the estate of Indian freedom fighter V. Kalyanam, who worked with Gandhi at his ashram. Kalyanam was responsible for drafting replies to letters that Gandhi received.
