American track and field athlete (1914-1986) who represented the United States in the 80-meter hurdles at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, becoming the first African-American woman to compete in the Olympic Games. She and Louise Stokes were the first African-American women to be selected for the Olympic Games when they made the American Olympic team as part of the eight-woman 4 x 100-meter relay pool. The consignor notes that the autograph was obtained at the Los Angeles 1932 Summer Olympics.
