American political boss (1872-1945) who controlled Kansas City and Jackson County, Missouri, from 1925 to 1939, when he was convicted of income tax evasion and served 15 months in a federal prison. The Pendergast organization helped to launch the political career of future president Harry S. Truman, which caused Truman's early enemies to dub him ‘the senator from Pendergast.' Vintage matte-finish 7 x 9.25 photo of Pendergast by the E. Foley Studio, affixed to the original 10.5 x 13.75 studio mount, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To My Friend Dr. R. L. Sutton, with warm regards, Thomas J. Pendergast.” The mount is signed by the photography studio. In fine condition, with some old adhesive residue along the bottom edge of the mount.
