Union General (1810-1883) and Chief Engineer of the US Army. Humphreys became an aide to General George B. McClellan in 1861 and was promoted to brigadier general in April 1862. In September of that same year he took command of a division of the 5th Corps which he led with distinction in the Antietam campaign, the bloody assault on Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, and at Chancellorsville. Superb 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Humphreys in uniform by Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries, signed on the mount in ink, "A. A. Humphreys, Brig. Genl." In very good to fine condition, with light scuffing and staining.
