Fantastic 2.5 x 4.25 carte-de-visite photo of Longfellow by Warren of Cambridgeport, signed and inscribed on the reverse in ink to a fellow writer, "To R. H. Dana, Jr., With Kind Regards, Henry W. Longfellow, 1865." In fine condition. Richard Henry Dana, Jr., to whom this photo is inscribed, is the acclaimed author of Two Years Before the Mast, a memoir in which the Boston native detailed his three-year sea voyage, which took him to various settlements in California. This book would serve as one of the few early resources on the Western state, and would be held in high regard during the California Gold Rush. Dana's son, Richard Henry Dana III, would go on to marry Longfellow's daughter, Edith. A superior association. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
