(Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Amazing original concept painting by Mary Blair of Peter Pan and three beautiful mermaids in Neverland's Mermaid Lagoon. Accomplished in tempera on 10.5 x 9.5 artist’s board, the moonlit scene wonderfully portrays the four figures perched on dark rocks jutting up from the lagoon's water. Peter Pan joyfully waves at the mermaids, and hues of blue and teal add a dreamlike quality to the magical scene. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners.
Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World), and her largest work, the multistory mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
