Scarce 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of the Confederate commander by Mathew Brady, depicting Robert E. Lee in a bust-length left-facing pose, signed at the bottom of the image in ink, “R. E. Lee.” Reverse bears Brady's backmark, “M. B. Brady & Co., National Photographic Portrait Galleries, No. 352 Pennsylvania Av., Washington, D.C. & New York.” Caption to lower front margin reads: “Entered according to Act of Congress by M. B. Brady & Co. in the year 1865 in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of the District of Columbia.” In fine condition, with a light semicircular stain to the right side. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
