Son (1617-1680) of Frederick V of the Palatinate (the 'Winter King' of Bohemia) and of Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia. After living in exile during the German Thirty Years' War and the English Civil War, in 1649 Charles Louis reclaimed his father's title of Elector Palatine along with most of his former territories. Manuscript DS, signed “Charles Lodowick,” one page, 7.75 x 12.25, March 9, 1638. Early document signed at the conclusion by Charles Louis as Count Palatine of the Rhyne and Prince Elector of the Sacred Empire, with embossed paper seal affixed at lower left. In very good condition, with overall soiling, a tear at center, and a few creases. Accompanied by two engraved portraits.
