American heart surgeon (1920-2016) best known for performing the first artificial heart transplant in 1969. Two items: a glossy 5 x 7 photo of Cooley, signed in black felt tip, “Denton A. Cooley 1994”; and an original sketch of a human heart by Cooley on an off-white 5.5 x 8.5 sheet of his personal stationery, accomplished in black ink and signed below, "Denton A. Cooley, M.D." In overall fine condition.
