Confederate major general (1826-1895) who distinguished himself during the Siege of Petersburg; in his career as a civil engineer, Mahone was prominent in the building of Virginia's roads and railroads. Partly-printed DS, signed “Wm. Mahone,” one page, 12.25 x 8.25, December 2, 1869. Interest bond of the Virginia and Tennessee Rail Road Company in the amount of $1000, issued to D. H. Miller, signed in ink by Mahone as president. In fine condition.
