Description

Brother of American Express co-founder William Fargo, J. C. Fargo (1829-1915) served as a president of American Express for 30 years and pioneered the development of traveler's cheques. LS signed “Jas. C. Fargo,” one page, 8.5 x 11, American Express Company letterhead, March 2, 1885. Letter to James Eggleston regarding a contract with the New Brunswick Railroad, in part: "Mr. Thorne told me original copy of contract, or the first copy submitted to him, dated from Jan'y 1, and asked that contact be so left to read. Whether he expects back pay or not, cannot say—time enough to offer same when asked for." In very good to fine condition, with some light staining and toning.
