British naturalist, explorer, and biologist (1823-1913) best known for proposing a theory of natural selection which prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own. ALS signed “Alfred R. Wallace,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, December 1, 1892. Handwritten letter to English botanist and taxonomist Maxwell T. Masters regarding botanical specimens, in part: "Many thanks for your information. I have got Dickson's Catalogue, and I find they have got mot of the species I want, so I shall send for them. I had no idea they had such an extensive nursery, as they do not advertise so much as many others. I did not ask Dyer for them as he has given me some nice lots of alpine plants…Thanks for the Thapsia seed, but I am afraid it is too large a plant for me, I will give it to Dr. Allman who has plenty of room." In fine condition.
