Important military figure and politician (1608-1670) and a key figure in the restoration of Charles II. Manuscript DS, signed “Albemarle,” one page, 7.75 x 11.75, July 25, 1667. Warrant to Sir Stephen Fox, Paymaster General of His Majesties Forces in England, ordering him to pay “Edward Earle of Manchester Lord Chamberlaine of his Maj. Household” monies for eight named companies of the Earl’s Regiment of Foot. Signed at the conclusion by George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle. Endorsed on the reverse by Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, as “Manchester,” who acknowledges receipt of the monies. Montagu (1603-71) was Commander of Parliamentary Forces in the First English Civil War and for a time Cromwell’s Commanding Officer. In fine condition, with some light toning and soiling.
