Partly-printed DS as president, signed "Benj. Harrison," one page, 17 x 13, May 16, 1889. President Harrison appoints James H. Clugage as "Postmaster at Sullivan, in the County of Sullivan, State of Indiana." Signed at the conclusion by President Harrison, and countersigned by Postmaster General John Wanamaker. The gold foil seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. Affixed to a same-size mount and in fair to good condition, with handwritten portions of text and Wanamaker's signature traced over, heavy toning, stains, tears, areas of paper loss, and a diagonal crack across the upper right. Harrison's signature is essentially unaffected by the flaws.
