Description

Grammy nomination plaque for 'I Want to Hold Your Hand'—the Beatles' first #1 hit in America

Historic Grammy nomination plaque, 8.5 x 10.5, presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences "to The Beatles in recognition of Nomination for the Record of the Year, 'I Want to Hold Your Hand,' for the awards period 1964." The black-bordered plaque bears the facsimile signature of the Academy's president. In very good to fine condition, with laminate loss and chipping to the lower left corner and a small bubble to bottom edge.

'I Want to Hold Your Hand' was the Beatles' first number-one hit in America and is credited with jumpstarting the famed 'British Invasion.' It remained at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks before being displaced by another Beatles hit, 'She Loves You.' In spite of its massive success on the charts, 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' lost out to 'The Girl from Ipanema' for this Grammy award. The band did, however, take home Grammy honors for Best New Artist and Best Performance by a Vocal Group (for 'A Hard Day's Night'). A super desirable piece of pop music history, representing the Beatles' first success in the United States.
