Frederick VI (1768-1839) served as last King of Denmark-Norway before losing the Norwegian crown in 1814 as a result of the French defeat in the Napoleonic Wars; he remained King of Denmark until his death. His wife, Marie of Hesse-Kassel (1767-1852), served as regent of Denmark during his absence to attend the Vienna Congress in 1814-1815.
