Influential English art critic and writer (1819-1900) remembered as a champion of the work of J.M.W. Turner. ALS signed “J. Ruskin,” one page, 5.75 x 5.75, May 30. Handwritten letter commenting on the 16th-century Renaissance poet Torquato Tasso, in part: "I am sorry that whatever be the nature of the points on which you wish to consult me, I shall be quite disqualified from giving any opinion, by the simple fact that I never read the stanzas of Tasso in my life." In fine condition, with mounting remnants to left edge.
