Description

Celebrated military leader (1735-1806) and prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, recognized as a cultured and benevolent despot and a master of 18th century warfare. He was mortally wounded by a musket ball at the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt during the Napoleonic Wars. ALS in French, one page, 7.25 x 9, September 15, 1791. Untranslated handwritten letter in French, extending congratulations on the marriage of Wilhelmine of Prussia to William I of the Netherlands. In fine condition.
