Two ALSs from 17th American Vice President Schuyler Colfax, three total pages, 5 x 8 and 5.25 x 8.5, one dated to June 2, 1875, the other to October 9th (no year). In the first handwritten letter, Colfax relays names of various cities he’s recently lectured before responding to the recipient’s request for help in regard to the assemblage of a volume of poetry; in the second letter, penned at the bottom of a form letter promoting Colfax’s lecture ‘Our Martyred Presidents,’ Colfax presumably writes to the same recipient, thanking him for “the tender & appropriate & touching piece of poetry you wrote about our beloved President who has so recently gone to his rest.” In overall very good to fine condition, with light soiling and staining, and staple holes to the top.
