Carrying a rate of 6%, the first mortgage bond features an attractive vignette of two cowboys herding their cattle, and is signed in ink by Erastus Wells as president and D. T. Parker as secretary. Erastus Wells (1823-1893) was a businessman with interests in the railroad and agricultural industries, and represented Missouri in Congress throughout the 1870s.
