American colonial leader, militia officer, governor of the Connecticut Colony, and founder of Newark, New Jersey (1624-1710). Manuscript DS, signed “Robert Treat Go'r,” one page, 8.5 x 6.25, no date but circa 1683-1698. As governor of Connecticut, Treat orders Lt. Abraham Phelps to take charge of a company in Windsor, and there to "exercise your inferiours officers & soldiers in peace & war." Signed at the conclusion by Governor Treat. Retains most of the red wax seal affixed to the left side. In fine condition, with a circular offset stain from the partially damaged red wax seal.
