Description

Early American architect (1763-1844) who designed numerous buildings in his native Boston and was principal architect of the US Capitol in Washington. ADS, signed “By order of the Selectman, Chas. Bulfinch, Chairman,” one page, 8 x 13.25, May 17, 1802. Handwritten document concerning the building of a tomb: "This certifies that Messrs. Richard Chamberlain and Thomas Chase obtained liberty of the selectmen to break ground in the public burying place, south of the common for the purpose of building a tomb therein; such tomb being now completed and numbered sixty-three. Said Chase is the proprietor of one-half thereof, for the use of himself, this heirs or assigns." Signed boldly at the conclusion by Charles Bulfinch. In fine condition, with tape repairs to the back of several fold splits.
