Confederate major general (1836-1906), known as 'Fightin' Joe,' who led his troops in vigorous opposition to Sherman during the Atlanta campaign. ALS signed "Jos. Wheeler," one page, 8.5 x 4.5, no date. A brief handwritten letter to Captain Field of Wheeler Rifles, in part: "I congratulate you upon your success in Selma." In fine condition, with a faint diagonal bend to the lower right corner.
