World War I-dated TLS, one page, 8 x 5, Burwash, Etchingham letterhead, July 9, 1918. Letter to noted lecture organizer James B. Pond, in full: "I have to thank you for your letter of June 14th, containing an invitation to lecture in the United States next year, and regret that work which I have undertaken does not permit of my doing so. I think before another year has far advanced the people of the United States will have begun to understand, through their personal experience, what the war means to them." In fine condition, with a small price sticker on the front, and small piece of old tape on the back.
