Description

Specially developed high intensity light designed for interior photography in the Skylab space station when the standard fluorescent lights were insufficient. The light, with upper carrying handle, is housed in a 17.5 x 6.25 x 9 metal cage that surrounds the lamp assembly; the caging is for safety precautions given that the light’s operating temperature was high enough to inflict burns. As such, the switches and some of the connections between the top and bottom halves of the protective cage are covered with high-temperature plastic. A part plate to the left side of the control panel reads: “High Intensity Fluorescent Light, Part No. 150200, Ser. No. 002, Mfd. By Iota Engineering, Inc. Tucson, Arizona Code 31046, Assem IQ 72, For NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, Contract NAS 8-24527, 26.5 VDC 5.8 AMP, 154 W, U.S.” A red warning plate to opposite side reads: “Solid case will exceed 105 F, handle with care.” One end features a capped “J2 Test” port, and the back side with power cable is labeled: “Altered Vendor Part, 95M10770-1.” In fine, untested condition, with some loss of the reflective aluminization around the lamps and loss of the gold-plating of the protective cage. Accompanied by ample literature and documentation related to light assembly, which includes detailed drawings and diagrams as well as a description of all the tests done on these photographic lights.
