Ashkenazi Jewish painter and art collector (1847-1935) who was one of the leading proponents of Impressionism in Germany. His vast private art collection, which included notable works of the French Impressionists, was looted by the Nazi regime after his death. Rare 4.5 x 6.75 albumen photo of Liebermann working from life on a huge portrait of a peasant farmer, affixed to a 5.25 x 7.5 mount, neatly signed in ink, "Max Liebermannm, Brl. 14/4 95." In very good to fine condition, with chipping to edges and corners of the mount.
