Celebrated favorite (1599-1626) and 'Master of the Robes' to King Louis XIII of France. He foolishly conspired against Cardinal Richelieu and as a result was summarily arrested and executed; the unskilled axeman took over 30 blows to sever his head. LS in French, signed "Chalais," one page both sides, 8.25 x 13.5, February 11, 1626. Untranslated letter signed just five months before his gruesome execution. In fine condition.
